Anybody been around Corsica or Sardinia ? Can get some resonable flights there at short notice but accomodation seems expensive.

Does anybody know if it is mainly hotels there or can you find simple B&B's run by the local folk ? Have found mainly expensive hotels at the moment.

Have only stayed on hotels in Sardinia and concur it's expensive, even for middling establishments, never managed to find any reasonably priced restaurants either. Wonderful place with great food though, one to tick off imho.

I've been to both islands quite a few times. Sardinia is more "trendy" especially with rich Italians so it's quite expensive pretty much everywhere, but has beaches to die for that rival if not surpass the Caribbeans and Indian Ocean.... last time we went we were camping! In the summer you'll have to book fairly in advance though.

Corsica is even more "unspoilt" and potentially cheaper to have a holiday, imo.

Beaches are awesome, roads are awesome, it's bloody hot. Nuff said....

Only thing is I can't do beach holidays........

Can't really help you with accommodation unfortunately.

Women aren't half bad either wink

Oh if you're driving there you can get an overnight ferry over From Rome (I think it was Rome)

Food is very nice as well (true for most of Italy)

It is expensive there though.

Thanks for all the info - sounds like its going to get a bit expensive even without the difficulty of finding accomodation at short notice !!

Olbia's very popular with the moneyed set, count the number of private jets at the airport if you need convincing, which is why it's so expensive. For some strange reason I've always struggled to get a taxi there too.

Unless you're really keen I wouldn't bother to be honest. Ah, you've bought the tickets already.......................

Phew!

Seriously, I've never found much there to entertain me. Fine if you 'do' beaches but otherwise............

Did a last minute week to Corsica in September/October 2008 - stayed in a self catering place in Santa Giulia - fabulous beaches and make sure you hire a car as there was plenty to see. Prehistoric ruins, Roman ruins, Bonifacio is also worth a look around, oh yeah, and at that time of year look out for the Tour de Corse smile Muggins here almost ended up the wrong way up a rally stage - they don't really go in for closing roads...

Definitely recommend it as one of those places often forgotten about but worth a visit.
