Having seen dozens of power graphs posted up over the years with some major differences in the shape and position of curves along the rev range with some peaking sub 6k rpm some more than 7k rpm has got me thinking (it hurts btw hehe).
Has anyone compared the results for setting the Cam Timing to the TVR workshop manual recommended 1.5mm lower for inlet over exhaust against the evolved and popular even inlet/exhaust lift setting. Does it move the curve up or down the rev band, my thinking is that the even lift method must retard the cam timing and hence should in theory move (rock) the power curve up the rev range.........or have I completely misunderstood the subject.

Harry, I'm afraid I can't really help with the "why", however, I can say that both Joo from TCS (as was) and Dom from Power recommend even overlap in order to make best power. I'm guessing they've seen plenty of both setups over the years in order to have come up with that recommendation.

When I did the cam timing on mine (some years ago now) both sides were retarded by 8-10° and the car didn't feel like the full stable of ponies was there.

I reset it to the equal lift on overlap method and alright I adjusted a couple of tappets at the same time but it was vastly improved after that and the chap who bought it put it on the rollers and got 350Bhp at 6,500 which I though wasn't bad for 60K miles 4.2

Hmm why are you called 350Matt scratchchin

AndyPM had my engine out and front cover off a few months ago to fix a broken alt pulley and I assume he dialled in the timing because it had 10 more horses when it came back smile

I know the subjective results of equal lift gives better results, just wondering if anyone had any before and after curves to see if not only make more power but where it makes more power.
Also had anyone measured with a cam timing wheel what the difference in degrees was between the values, or even better if anyone had tried points in between 1.5mm lower and equal lift (or even further slightly beyond equal).
I remember not so long ago one of the race cars (Mikes) asking about how to extend the rev band up the range and proffered the that cam timing was probably the easiest way, so in a way its a follow on from that.
