I was booked the other night going up Titchfield Hill.
Had the NIP through yesterday; booked at 53mph in the 40mph limit.
That's £60/3 points isn't it?
Can't seem to find anything on Hants Constabulary Site... It just says points are typically 3 and there is a fine, but both are dependent on the speed.

Aye - it'll be a fixed penalty at that speed (assuming you have less than 9 valid points currently).

Slightly too fast for the option of a speed awareness course, unfortunately.

Yeah, clean licence. rolleyes
It'll be interesting to see how it impacts my insurance...
I did also assume it was above doing the speed awareness course.

A straightforward SP30 might not hit it at all.

Afraid so. AIUI, Hants SRP follows national guidelines which provides that courses should not be offered for speeds greater than 10% plus 6mph in excess of the posted limit.. frown

Was the NIP served correctly within the 14 day statutory period?

I have absolutely no experience whatsoever of using every one of the 28 days available at each step of the paperwork and the whole affair timing out after six months whistle

Bad luck Luke. Was it on the left going up the hill where they usually sit?

Beacause its outside the %10 + 6mph. However, last year I was done for 79mph in a 70 but was not offered the course. Does it not get offered if its on a dual carriage way?

Luke, it shouldn't make a difference to your insurance. I know many a person who have gained 3 points on what was otherwise a clean licence and this didn't affect their insurance costs. Now 6 points on the other hand does.

Courses are offered for 36-39 in a 30. I guess the 40 is similar. Gutted for you, very annoying.

A WARNING TO OTHERS

I know that ignorance of the law is no excuse, but I got done for 3 points and £60 3 years ago for doing 70 mph heading north at Butser on A3. I knew the scamera van was there, and held my speed at 70 on the sat nav. Trouble is, I was in my van which is over 3500kgs gross weight, and I was not aware I was governed to 60mph on an A road dual carriageway. 70mph ok on motorway, and only 50 on single carriageway where national speed limit applies. Take into account the +10% + 2, they effectivley done me for 1mph over speed limit even though I pleaded mitigating circumstancies.

It's a classic mistake by all van drivers. Even our Police Transits have stickers in them to remind drivers of their reduced speed limits. Whilst doing 60mph on the A3, I'm regularly overtaken by white van man doing 70, with no idea that they're 10mph over the limit!

IIRC, it applies to any non-car-derived van with a gross weight over 2 tonnes.

I was aware of this,I was simply choosing to speed and was bang to rights.

Two weeks ago tomorrow there was the speed camera on the Eastern Road and not sure if he got me or not, he certainly had a good look as I drove by so if anyone behind me was speeding they may well of got away with it. I was driving the Merc. R Class only doing somewhere in region of 45 tops I think, in the 40 zone.

He was standing in the ditch with his camera the crafty sod. Keeping my fingers crossed he was just looking and didnt get me....

Where was the van - sure he wasn't just in the ditch taking a leak? I spotted one by the Morissons turning couple of weeks back but he was in his van in the central island.

Luke - were you going down or up the hill ?

I had a shock a few years back coming off the roundabout , took the right lane up the hill and noted the scamera man in the lay-by next to the school - brown trousers and smokey tyres moment I can tell you !

Going up.

Annoying. I just hope at 22 (23 come renewal) it doesn't impact my insurance too much. frown
