Holiday with pregnant wife?
Discussion
My wife is five months pregnant and is expecting our first child on 1st November.
However, we'd both really like a holiday while she can still fly, and am looking for some ideas and recommendations on where to go with a fairly heavily pregnant wife!
To be honest, it doesn't even have to be overseas, but we'd like somewhere with good food, bit of scenery, nice weather (if we do fly somewhere), usual kind of stuff.
Ideally, we'd like a week to 10 days away somewhere and I'm thinking early August (as I'm not sure on how many weeks she can go up to before she cannot fly).
Oh, and the final thing is, that I'd like it to be a surprise for her. Budget will be around £1.5k/£2k.
Thanks all for any advice!

Depending on the airline 36 weeks (IIRC it's less for a ferry) is the maximum and she'll need a doctor's note from 28 weeks. And she won't appreciate going anywhere where she's expected to walk far, or anywhere that's hot.
Flying is a hassle these days, and not something to be doing if you have limited mobility or are feeling tired. She may feel like she is going to be confined forever and has to escape somewhere now, but, in reality, babies are pretty portable (esp. when they are small) so there is no reason why you won't be able to jet off somewhere in February if all goes well.
As Bill said, you want to avoid anywhere hot, or anywhere you expect food hygiene may not be up to scratch. I would therefore stick to Northern Europe at that time of year, and tbh, a nice country house hotel in the UK or somewhere in the Relais et Chateaux group of hotels in Northern France for a week would fit the bill for me - nice food, pampering and no transport hassle if you take your own car.

You big wusses. Babies are mostly fine on planes even on long-haul. And if you're finding it really stressful and don't want to fly you could stay somewhere like this placehttp://www.fjbhotels.co.uk/our-hotels/the-sandbank...
or this place

5 days in one of these places post-baby would be far more restful than 10 days waddling around in temperatures of 35c whilst heavily pregnant (IMHO).

Nope, kids have all reached the "Age of Reason" and have always been pretty well-behaved, and no bother on flights. In fact, I can't remember a flight where my peace was disturbed by an infant, but I can remember plenty where some drunken arse has decided to talk loudly through the night, play his ipod at an unneighbourly volume, leave his reading light on all night, wander constantly up and down the aisle or drop stuff out of the overhead locker. I'll take kids on planes over adults anytime.Majorca. Book a villa in the south and a car to explore the island. It has everything really. My wife and I went and did all the Florida theme parks when she was pregnant...albeit not 5 months.
We tend to stay in Cala D'Or where you have the choice of 5 or more cove-style beaches with safe bathing. Colonie St Jordi is also brilliant. The old train from palma to Soller is fab. Valldemosa is fab. Bit chavvy oop North though.

When my wife was at about the same stage we took the car on the Swansea - Cork ferry to Ireland. Ireland really does feel like being 'abroad' despite the similarities, but is close enough to get back home quickly if you need to, the same first language. Cork is a nice place to stay, made our way via Kinsale to Baltimore. Loads of places to eat, Guiness (the Iron in the odd half pint will do her good!!), friendly locals and empty unspoilt beaches. We were very lucky with the weather, blue skies for the whole time.
