My first Shotgun.....and i have a question!!
Discussion
Just bought a Rizzini 12 gauge over and under, but the dealer didn't really know what he was talking about.. (It was a fishing shop that sells a few guns).
I want to get some cartridges and find them cheaper on the net.
How do i find our what chamber size the gun is to make sure i buy the right size cartridges?
There are no gun dealers in my area to nip in and ask...

Unless you are planning on getting 3" you would be unlucky to find it has really small chambers, as said above.
That said, you may be planning on getting 3" often but then you would have checked to make sure it could take them then
Or just slip a pen down and see how far it goes in (along the edge of bore course)

Don't make the mistake of assuming because a 3" cartridge will drop into a shorter chambered gun, that it fits and will fire OK. It will fire, but you run the risk of having the barrel(s) burst, because the longer case can't fully open, thus generating excessive barrel pressure. Scary stuff. That said, you may be planning on getting 3" often but then you would have checked to make sure it could take them then

How about looking up your gun on the Rizzini website?
Having said that, most of the shells you buy are 2 3/4". Some older game guns are chambered for 2 1/2" cartridges, but I've never seen an o/u that's chambered 2 1/2. Doesn't mean to say your's isn't one of them!

i'll nip home now and take a couple of photos to upload....

indeed. Not ideal with BB shot as they really will choke up...
That said don't some of the bigger cartridges run a non-crimped end anyway (i remember having some BB ones with a plastic clear cap over the end)

Hi
Chamber size will be stamped in mm on the underside of the barrels, next to the proof marks. 2 1/2 inch will be 65mm, 2 3/4 inch will be 70mm, 3 inch will be 76mm.
Unless 'specialist' fowling loads (Hevi shot, Bismuth etc) I very much doubt that you'll get your shells cheaper over the net.
Regards

Does that work for older guns? I can't see any markings on mine (an oldish Beretta).Chamber size will be stamped in mm on the underside of the barrels, next to the proof marks. 2 1/2 inch will be 65mm, 2 3/4 inch will be 70mm, 3 inch will be 76mm.
