Italians wheel out the good stuff for 100th anniversary

It's the Goodwood Festival of Speed this weekend, so it's almost traditional that the central sculpture in front of Lord March's stately gaff is awarded Pic of The Week status here on PH.

Alfa's Cloverleaf inspired sculpture

This time around it's Alfa Romeo making a glorious statement about it glorious 'first hundred years' - the two cars being held up for general approbation being the 1925 World Championship winning Alfa P2 Grand Prix car, and the Alfa 8C Competizione. The sculpture itself takes its inspiration from the marque's Cloverleaf badge, they say, but after quite a few productions of a similar ilk are we the only ones wondering which manufacturer will break the mould in future years with something a little bit, well, different?

And the 1967 Alfa 33 Stradale

Anyway, in case installation art isn't your thing, Alfa have very spiffingly issued another image to support their Goodwood activity - this time a gorgeous studio study of the Alfa 33 Stradale Prototipo from 1967 about which the press release says: "Representing the return of the eight cylinder engine, Alfa Romeo’s desire to bring racing technology to the public, saw the 33 Stradale become the most expensive car of its time. Considered as one of the most beautiful cars ever made, the 1967 prototype was designed by Franco Scaglione."

So pay yer money and, er, pick your Pic of The Week from one of these two beauties.

Just brought up your homepage, saw the little red car, and instantly thought, YES! they’ve done it, the millichilli/dino/light beautiful car is here! To buy! Then heart sank just as quickly when I realised it’s not something new, not something we can buy today.

Love the stradale, one of the true stunners. Please, someone do something similar for today!

Was the Alfa Romeo sculpture sponsored or designed by Hugh Hefner?

The cloverleaf looks more like two bunny logos back to back.
At least from this angle. Very funny.
Still cool though.

Did anybody ever make a 33 stradale replica? I mean a GOOD one.
There are replicas of almost everything but I never saw one of a 33 stradale.

Which is great, isn't it? It's a fantastic car, it'd be a shame to devalue it by having a load of fakes going around.

Funnily enough I took the exact same picture on Thursday when I went. But I used my iPhone, so the quality isn't that great.
Pretty sure there was a 33 Stradale at the Cartier stand? Will have to consult my pics.

The 2048x1536 crops to 1920x1200 quite nicely (loses the letterboxing black strip and PH branding, but none of the car).

On a similar note though, 2048 wide isn't supersize any more. Can we have 2560x as an option? And does anybody know where to find the source image as released by Alfa?
(presumably there's a less brutally JPEG'd version out there somewhere)
