Ford Racing Puma,
S2000 (as above would also be a good choice in this budget.)

fk it! Edit not delete......

Been building up to my first 'what car' thread for ages and i well and truly mess it up. So hear goes again.

£6000 ish to spend.

Want something fun and interesting.

Missus loves Caterham/Westfield/Lotus 7 type stuff, i like all sorts. Problem is, whenever i look at something i want it. This morning alone i've wanted a Porsche, TVR, Lotus, MK Indy etc. It's sp difficult when the chips are down and you have to make a choice.

What does PH think?

well they exist at £7k advertised price so some negotiating and how strict is the budget would a few more months saving make it worth while?
Would I buy a £6 k e39 m5 probably not as that's right at the bottom of the Market so will be big miles multiple owners possibly lost service history etc it all comes down to how much you compromise that said if you really wanted one you could buy it then give it a major service straight away check everything then you have a clean slate of course if the engine is shot you'd not buy that one

then why suggest it?

A £6k M5 is a serious risk and a potential financial nightmare that anyone who only has 6k to spend on a car could not afford.

I'm a big fan of the S2000.

Ok they're not very quick, and the handling gets slated by the media (TBH, I never noticed it in the one I drove & from reading a bit into it, a quick geometry set-up works wonders) and if you're a big lad, your knee will catch on the flip front stereo cover.

OTOH, they make a really, really good noise when thrashed up to the red line, I'll probably get flamed for this, but IMO the noise of that screaming 4, sounds better than your average boomy V8.

They're still fetching £20,000, so an old one with later alloys will

a) still look resonably current
b) should hold it's value well.

IMO, a pretty good all-round package for your budget.

S2000 never entered my mind, i didnt realise they were that cheap now. Wrong time to buy a convertible i should imagine. Wont the prices go even lower once the weather gets back to normal?

because it's a genuine option just because I wouldn't probably buy one at that price doesn't mean op wouldn't.
Why not say the same about the 928gts or any of the jags.

The other thing is at £6k e39 m5 everybody knows it's risky whereas say a Ctr etc wouldn't generally be considered a risk but that could turn out to be a turd. You buy on condition there could be a distressed m5 sale for this budget who knows.

Arguable anything 7 years or older could have big costs upcoming Plus the cars the op has suggested do indicate he is happy for a bit of tlc
