quick qn - insurance on a cat c/d
Discussion
Most people running cat D cars have not told the insurer, and it makes no difference (and most people probably dont even know they have bought a cat D).
No doubt the advice from pistonheads will be that you must tell them, in which case what happens? You complicate the process eg for on line quotes there is no provision to say a car is cat D.
If you were unlucky enough to have to make a claim for a total loss then it will come into the equation and expect to get a lower payout than you would for a non cat D car.

Your pretty much right advise the insurers its a CAT * write off generally they will just note it on the system, but won't affect premium (although can vary per insurer) it just means come pay out time in a claim will be lower but obviously you would be aware of that as you probably have bought the car for a lower price than a non CAT car (one would hope you would have at least). No doubt the advice from pistonheads will be that you must tell them, in which case what happens?
