Removing the transmission Tunnel

So how does one do this?

I've gotten the bolts out, do I need to jack up the car and get underneath it to loosen the handbrake, or is there a simpler way?

You need to get the handbrake lever close to vertical, so yes you need to slacken off the cable.

Are you just talking the centre panel inside the car?... The tunnel has a top panel that you can remove once this is off.. but that's it... as said before.. if you want to go further it's hacksaw time?
If it is the ctr panel.. remove the bolts from the rear of the wale-tail and lift it up (once hand brake vertical etc)... it can get stuck to the top dash if not been out before so may take a bit of pulling... then disconnect the ribon cables etc and out it comes...

I need to replace the blower switch in the perspex panel, so just need to remove the perspex panel really.

How does one slacken the handbrake off? Using the adjuster under the car?

Yes... get it up on stands and I think I went in from the drivers side rear (not sure if wheel off helps)... screw the adjuster back till the lever will go straight up and then you can lift up from the back the centre bit.

Why are you taking the centre consol off for that???

Pull the heater switches and window switches and make a note of the connections.(digi camera)
You will find some small self tapper screws under the switches, remove those and the perspex panel will lift off, allowing the heater switch to come forward...

Perspex? Is the pre-cat dash substantially different?

BTW, you can undo the handbrake adjuster with the car on the deck if you lay on the floor with your amrpit level with the front of the O/S rear wheel and reach up.

Even better you can just take the handbrake cable out of one of the guides this slackens it of without having to play with the adjuster Not that i think u will need to go there with the older dash

Ah ha! Fixed! Now I can turn off the blower and the heated mirrors! Just to try and fix the cooling problem.
