A little too much oil

Hi all,

I was a retard and put in 250 ml too much oil - 4L rather than 3.75L. How important is this? I understand overfilling causes greater losses, so increases fuel consumption - but can I damage the engine? (Do I need to drain 250 ml of oil out of the engine?)

If so, what is the easiest method to remove 250 ml? I imagine removing and then replacing the sump drain plug would result in me being covered in oil...

Diesels can be a problem, if the engine oil is forced past the rings the engine can run on it's own oil and rev into oblivion. 250ml is probably not enough to worry about.
