Vibration

I have an S3c 2.9 and a very annoying vibration at 3500rpm,does not matter what gear you are in or even stationary it always does it, I have fitted a new propshaft and cv joints over the winter so I know they are ok, because it does it also when stationary logic suggests to me that it is engine related somewhere, the engine itself is quiet, does not use any oil or water at all and pulls like a train, so I would giess that it is something attatched to the engine, what do you think ?

Try a quick whizz with it cold and the fan belt off, it won't hurt for a short while.

Does it make any difference if you have your foot on the clutch?

Have you checked to see if your exhaust is to close to the chassis, normal culprits being the downpipes or silencer.

Also check the sump isn't sitting on the anti roll bar due to tired engine mounts.

Thanks for your help guys, It isn't the engine mounts as I did those also last winter, so i know nothing is rubbing, I tried removing the fan belt and I think the noise went away, I then refitted the fan belt and I'm fairly sure the noise didn't reappear so maybe I'm imagining it and the noise is only there whilst driving along, if that is the case then it might be the gearbox !!
The car is on stands at the moment whilst I fit my new Gaz gold's, once it is all done I will go for a spin and see what happens then.
