Lookign atthe lovely weatehr today decided it was time to take the roof off. Done it a thousand times with not the slightest bit of bother.

However on the drivers side of the car, upon releasing the 'handle' in boot to the unlock position, i noticed it was slightly jammed, but it moved as desired with a SLIGHT amoutn of force.

Then noticed that it wasnt actually releasing the bolt all the way so called a mate and got him to push bolt back with a small screw driver while i pulled roof off - magically without scratchign anything lol.

Well anyway the bolt on drivers side seems to go quite a bit further forward than the normal passenger side one. It had previously never been liek this, and the last time i took the roof off and put it back on there was not the slightest indication of any problem....

Anyone got some tips ? Its embaressing needign to call someoen to help put roof back on lol ..

Had that problem too!! :-)

There seems to be a way to fix it, but have not gotten round to doing it yet. Apparently, you either peel the carpet off, on the bit that kind of covers the lever, and there is a hole where you can adjust it from (I read so in a thread..).

Or if you feel adventurous, try to do it by getting into the boot and if you have small hands, you may be lucky and fix it.

Last time I took the top of, I had to use a screwdriver as well to push the pin in..

I also had this problem on the drivers side.....wonder if there is a slightly different route for the rods that makes it more prone to problems.

Anyhow, as said before, remove the carpet from the plate that covers the handle, and there is a hole in the plate that allows you to adjust the throw of the roof retaining pin..

Firstly apply triple jointed wrists and eyes that can see round corners.

Looking at the hole in the plate, you wil see a clevis joint (U shape with a plate in the middle and a pin going through the whole unit) At the top of the clevis joint is a locking nut.

1) loosen the locking nut (M10)
2) remove the clip that is around the clevis body, which stops the pin moving, and then remove the pin.
3) rotate the clevis assembly on the threaded rod to reduce the threads showing by the same amount that the roof retaing pin is too far proud.
4) move the handle to line up the clevis and central plate so that the pin can go back through, making sure it is clipped back to the clevis body
5)tighten the locknut
6) test - repeat if necessary.

Job takes 5 minutes but is fiddly.

Same thing happened to me a couple of weeks ago - naturally while on vacation frown Resistance when pulling the handle, pulling extra hard (hmm), a metallic ping from somewhere inside and voila - the bolt moves but not far enough. And, to make things more interesting, on the fuel filler side, with even less access. My temporary solution was to remove the nut that the handle pivots around and just pull on it.

Back home now and have spent the last half hour lying folded in the boot to fix the problem. Except it's not a simple matter of adjusting the rod stroke/position. The mechanisms on both side work identically (actual visual confirmation whilst lying in the boot), except the handle on problem side doesn't go all the way down, i.e. the rod won't go all the way in. However, the bolts on both sides protrude equally far. Which leads me to the conclusion that there must be an additional mechanism within the rear window pillar, and that is where the problem is. Looking at the angles of the rod and the bolt, there must be something in there.

Does anyone know what's inside the pillar? And how to access it? I assume I'd need to remove the pillar interior padding etc. How much of it, and how?

Help much appreciated.
