Is there an advantage...Yes they are normally cheaper.

Why would you want to replace a perfectly good battery? .....don't tell me it is for weight saving as I may start laughing.

I run the standard R1 battery in my car; they don't like having all the lights on and the fan running (as I learnt yesterday)

Mine cut out at the roundabout just before Goodwood yesterday after spending about 20/30 mins in a traffic jam with the fan running flat out and all my lights on. Unfortunately there was not enough power in the battery to fire it up again, luckily for me 2 police officers jumped off their bikes and gave me a bump start - but prior this I have had no issues over the last 12 months

Hello

I thought that it would be better to run a bike battery. I thought was the car battery would overcharge......not making this clear......just thought it may cause wiring/heating issues.

I had a wiring issue. a plug had melted. i have had the plug replaced and after some miles i have notice it is melting yet again.
Thinking that the car battery maybe the cause of a fauly regulator rectofire. Arghhhhhh

thanks guys

Let me guess, fireblade ?

They often fry regulators, it need to be mounted on a good heat-sink, preferably in the engine bay on the floor where it gets good airflow not up on the bulkhead in all the hot non moving air, you can get uprated regs with larger fins, aftermarket ones I find tend to be better than orgional ones.

Try searching for 'fireblade regulator' on ebay. You can get heat transfer grease (or whatever they call it) from Maplins etc.
