Car for a 20 year old
Discussion
My mate is currently looking for a new car, he has a budget of £3500 but this is slightly flexible.
He likes Japanese cars but is open to ideas for anything, we've spent the day looking at Civics mainly but I know nothing about this kind of market as I follow the Euro lot my self.
Obviously there are the usual requirements that we've been trying to stick to; low insurance (he has three years NCB), un chavved etc.
Does anybody else have any ideas as to what else would be available?

-Non-Turbo Impreza (depends on insurance)
-Accord (like the type R but with the 1.8 or 2.0 engine , easy to insure, nice looking, comfy, easy to run)
-Toyota Starlet
-Corolla (many many types available)
-Paseo (probably the cheapest coupe you can get and easy to insure as it is pretty much a starlet.)
-MX5 maybe (I couldnt insure one when I was 20 in NI but my brother who is 20 now can)
-Nissan (sunny) ZX coupe, cheap as you like, look really really good, cheap to run and modify, cheap to insure, bit crap to drive.
-Nissan Almera, the faster ones are great to drive and really cheap.

All avoid the Civic scene tax as well but the availability of cheap second hand parts is also less.
