Heading north on the M1 on saturday afternoon, at about 4 in the afternoon, and on the southbound carriageway just south of J10 there was a marked merc and another two cars with no lights on on the hard shoulder, but at the front was a XJ series Jag (I think) with blues in the grill. I don't think it was a standard traffic/motorway car, as the officers around it on the hard shoulder were just in vests a la beat officers, instead of the usual traffic kit, but just wondering if anyone had seen this before, and if it was yet another unmarked car to look out for. My initial thoughts are that it's an unmarked ARV, but not sure if it would be Herts or Beds, although i'm fairly sure Herts have two marked ARV's.

Any thoughts?

Have seen North Yorks Police use Cars that look normal Bonnet and Boot but have logos on the side. Colours are not "Normal" police either. These were sitting with a normal Traffic car Just past Wetherby on the Northside of the A1 in the Truck Underpass. New tactic maybe??

I followed 3 unmarked cars up the A23 this morning. They were in close convoy with blues and twos going. It was nice of them to clear my filtering lane for me and all, but they didn't half slow me up ;-p

All 3 were Fords, two Focii and a Scorpio....

If you see unmarked cars with blue lights etc... that do not appear to be traffic cars, they are probably one of the following:
1) Chief Officers car.
2) Surveillance car.
3) Specialist squad.
4) Police Driving School
5) Fire Brigade
6) Miltary Top Brass, (driven by RMP Officer).
7) Spooks/HMCE

If it was an XJ Jag, I'd say 1 & 6 are the best options.

Last wednesday night on the M1 I saw 3 unmarked cars hacking it northbound within 2 minutes of each other. They had blue sirens on top so I don't think they were traffic cars. One was a silver modeo and the other a dark blue A4. not sure what the other one was.
