Ian Lambert at RVT is a star

Took my Tam for a 12k service yesterday evening and i can truely say he must have checked every not and bolt on the car and changed every drop of fluid , not like some so called TVR specialists i could name.

yes i may have left there at 7am but he is a trooper and i would not take my car anywhere else. plus driving home at that time of a sunday morning is a good test of your car.
My car now runs better than i ever thought it could.

So if you need you car looking at after hours go to a man who knows what he is talking about even if he is slow, your car is worth the time.

Funny old world....what some see as a good service, others (including myself for valid reasons) see as something completely different.

Guess we're all entitled to our opinions smile

I have nothing but praise for Ian. He lives TVR and looked after my griff very well. I also enjoyed spending time at his garage which was more like a TVR social club most evenings after normal working hours.

Hi Ant, glad you made it out of Middlewich before 8am Saturday morning smileyou must have been knackered.
Good to see your are chuffed with Ian's service as like you say, you have to wait but I think the wait is usually worth it.
You have a mighty fine Tam which knowing Dave and his wife it will have been really well looked after.
Nice to meet up on Friday, good to chat.
Take care.
Paul. (green chim in for MOT...........eventually)

Ant l totally agree and only 2 weeks ago spent the whole night at RVT, which clearly is not something to be pleased about, although it must be said what Ian lacks in business sense and the ability to return your car on time he more than makes up for with his knowledge and skill.
Gazzab you clearly have a problem with Ian and since I live in Sheffield and have seen your car at another specialist I would be interested to hear your thoughts about them. Especially since my experience was to be charged ten times as much for half the about of work at a tenth of the quality, having said that the car was returned to me tens times quicker. Perhaps it's just me but l would rather drive tens times the distance to Middlewich to have someone who knows and cares about my Sag work on it!

I have used Ian for around 5 years and found him to be a really nice guy and does a really good job but I have found myself looking elsewhere to take my car as I have also found him unreliable. It's a shame really, but too many times I have waited till stupid o'clock in the morning when he's told me it's ready and I have arrived to find him still working on it. It's not just me it's also the people who give me a lift to pick up the car, who have to wait in case there is a problem and i have to leave the car there. The last straw was when he had it over a month to do an hours work on it, and again I arrived and he was still fixing it. As I said it's a shame as he does a great job, priced really well and cares about the cars also he's always really busy, so that shows you the quality of his work......just be prepared to wait..............

Never met him. So don't 'have a problem with Ian'. Happy to talk about the remedial work I funded though, off line and face to face. Also happy to endorse the garage I use. But I guess everyone has bad experiences now and again.

We paint Ians TVRs as well as other cars as of last year onwards, and it must be said, Ian lives and breaths TVR's and his knowledge is second to none! yes I agree he is late with some of the cars some of the time but surely his good points far outweigh the bad.

Also to make a point there are companies out their servicing TVR's very cheaply! and I don't understand how they can, they must be cutting corners and using low grade oils. Ian uses top end oils and lubricants and yes he is late most of the time, but every point of that 6k or 12k TVR check list gets done! even if he does have to put more hours in to get it done.

At the end of the day its down to your own opinion where you take your pride and joy.

But the whole point of me staring this thread was to praise Ian on how thorough he is and how much i trust his workmanship.

Everyone has there idea of good customer service and my idea is that the car comes first.
Some garages and people are money money money, to me this is a good way of making it but no good if your customers don't come back cuz they think they have been ripped off.
Ian would never rip anyone off and he tells you as it is.

I've just got back from RVT, after having Ian look over a Chimaera I've just bought.
I thought he was a cracking bloke full of advice and willing to share it. I told him I'd recently purchased the car and that I wanted it looked at so I could get anything fixed under the warranty from the dealer I bought it from. Despite knowing there was nothing in it for him this time he got the car on the ramps for a good look around then test drove it, then did a few cosmetic tidy up jobs! Finally he pointed out a couple of bits which will need doing by the dealer, he has certainly gained a customer when service time comes around. good coffee too..

Ian looks after my Griff. Poor Chris has spent many a night there at service time.

Would I trust anyone else with the Car - Maybe but not until RVT is no longer available!

Why would anyone want to work nights only by choice.

Sorry I got fed up with the novelty of nocturnal habits, having to make too many allowances here and went elsewhere more reliable and conventional.

I just want to clarify something now.

Ian no longer works nights - he does normal working hours - with the occasional late night - if its either of our cars, or if it's an emergency (someone's turned up and needs it fixed there and then).

So...leopards can teach ball tricks to an old spotty dog.

well said clair ,

but it dont matter if ian works days or nights , he only does it for his customers and that is what matters most.

i bet no other garage will work late to make sure you get your pride and joy back on the road.

so well done Ian,
