Yet another Spanish circuit wants an F1 race

It looks like hairpin central. It's going to be on Mallorca. It's apparently being considered by Bernie.

What could possibly go wrong?

Amid doubts about the long-term future of the Valencia event, representatives from Mallorca met with Ecclestone at the European Grand Prix last weekend to present plans for an all-new venue that will be completed in 2013.

Joan Jaume Mulet, the mayor of the Llucmajor municipality of the Balearic Islands, has thrown his support behind the project - and has already commissioned Spanish architects Mateo Palmer and Biel Arbona to work on the track.

The 'Circuit of the Balearic Islands' is planned to be 3.6 miles long, and the project has recruited Federico Gastaldi – one of the men who took F1 back to Argentina in the mid-1990s – to act as a mediator in the discussions with Ecclestone.

Don't forget they've held Spanish GPs at Jarama and Jerez too. Personally, I'd love the event to go back to Montjuich Park.

It was actually incredibley fast.



As you can see, alot of the circuit was fast flowing bends. Not very similar in character to Monaco at all apart from being a street circuit.

No chance of going back to Montjuic - there's a lot of scenery very close to the track which is Ok if you are going slowly like at Monaco, but I think it would be a bit mad there.

Great footage. What GP racing used to be all about.

I think Montjuic is out of the question now as the Olympic Stadium was built on the site.

Yep, those were the days. Real cars (apart from the silly wings of course) and real circuits.

Montjuich Park is available as a free download for GPL. My best time there is a 1:39.63 in a Repco-Brabham.
