Age, spec, colour, trim?

How old are they right now? Brand new?

Bit of a vague question...

Which will hold it's value better, a star wars action figure or a prada handbag?

Haha

Yeh sorry was a bit vague

I am thinking about getting either a 2001 TT or a 2001 C180 Sport Coupe. Both in black or silver.

They cost about the same and I am really torn. It has come down to which will hold its value better?

Cheers for any help

hmm. Does that mean they a ladies cars?

I would have agreed with you before the R8 came out about the TT. The C180 is Merc's answer to a 3 series BMW and I think they both look cool.

I'd say that if you're concerned about how much a 9 year old car will depreciate the running costs of the TT might be a bit high for you.

2001 is right in the middle of Mercedes Rust problems. I have seen many Mercedes of that age with rusty wheel arches.

Audi TT as long as it's mint and the right version 225bhp 1.8T.

I'd imagine alot will get modded, crashed and abused. Mint examples will then become valued again.

They're two very different cars. Depreciation is low on a car of that age, so i'd base your choice on which car you would prefer.

TT will be quicker and better handling. Merc Coupe probably has good points too.

The reason why I am concerned about depreciation is because I plan on having my next car for 3 years until I am 25 and then switching it for an Elise and don't want to loose too much of the cash. I have checked the insurance and both are about the same give or take a couple of hundred a year.

Are the running costs of the TT notoriously high?

If you are 22, why are you looking at old man's cars? I am 42 and I don't consider myself old enough (or fat enough) for a Merc yet.

Because I am looking for a car around 5/6k that I like.

I am not too into hatchbacks and the only one I would be interested in would be a Golf or an A3. You can't get what I would consider a nice golf for under £6k really and why get an A3 when you can get a TT?

I am looking at the Merc because I have a major fetish for SLR's. Having a nice Merc for a couple of years would be great. They are very well made.

Thanks for that. I will keep an eye out if I go for the Merc.

a) it's really not related in any way to the SLR
b) it's not a nice merc
c) merc's of that age aren't very well made
d) go for the TT instead.

'C180 Coupe' and 'well made' should not be in the same sentence unless the well made bit has 'not' in front of it. I'd read some reviews before you take the plunge on one of them, I was under the impression they were universally panned?

Lot of better cars than a TT as well, but I think that has been extensively covered on this website before...

TT will definitely hold it's value better, and be easier to sell. How many women want a TT compared to how few even know what a C180 is?

a.) It has the badge wink
b.) I like the look of it but have never driven one. Cheers for the opinion though. Have not done much research
c.) Thanks for the heads up
d.) I have to say that is where I am swaying. The only concern is that it is viewed by some people as a ''hairdressers'' car. Not that I will car too much if it goes like I expect.

More than open to suggestions or links! Bare in mind I only want to go up to £6k and am under 25.

Cheers

Mercs are fat bloke cars for fat blokes and TTs are sports cars for people who know nothing about sports cars.

If you like German cars, get a BMW. Personally, I'd get an Accord Type-R or (PH alert) an MX5.
