Mystery black button - what's it supposed to do?

Hi all,

Tucked away, forward of the internal door release, almost out of sight, I have a round, black, latching pushbutton, and have no idea what it does. It doesn't get a mention in the handbook as far as I can see, and seems to not do anything much, either with or without the engine running. Is this standard, and if so, what is it for? (It's a '99 Griff 500 by the way)

Doesnt ring any bells. Not meant to be a pun. Could be a fan switch over ride button, most of the time the light up to show they are on.Works only with ingnition on..

As has already been said; dash lights on/off.

Press it! It'll turn off the dash lights. And, in all probability fall off too.

Does anyone know why TVR actually bothered with this? Maybe they thought "if we put this strange switch in, when the car is 15 years old the owner will be able to easily change it for a fan over-ride"

Dash dimmer switches were standard fitting on lots of cars for a lot of years, probably Peter Wheeler liked to drive dark roads without the glare from dash.

I understand the real reason was to save battery power when you left the sidelights on when parked up on a road with a speed limit of more than 30mph. (Parking lights are still a requirement I believe although you rarely see them used these days)
