Does it matter which side you put tyres on? Or are both rears the same? I'm guessing they're not the same, they are directional, so a rear left cannot simply be transferred on to the right side rear?

Might be a stupid question, but I'm not sure.

Some are, some are not. Varies with make/model.

If you have directional tyres (there will be an arrow showing the direction of rotation on the sidewall) then you must keep the tyre on the same side.

Unless you remove the tyre from the rim and reverse it, obviously.

it's direction of rotation which matters, not which side of the car it's on.

They are directional. I haven't got the tyres in front of me. Will they have the writing on both sides of the tyre then? As tyres always have writing facing outwards, it must wither be on both sides, or the tyres on the left and right side would be different. Right?

I'm looking for some rear track day tyres:

If you imagine putting them on the car as shown in the pic, they are facing opposite directions, you can't just turn one round as the tread is different all the way across the width of the tyre. So surely in this case the left and right tyres need to be dirrent? Or am I being a pleb?

PS2s would go on exactly as they are in that picture with the wider tread blocks on the outside. I don't recall there being any direction to them, I used to swap all 4 about on my Evo without any problem.

They look like asymmetrical tyres to me so they should be used on a certain side of the vehicle. There will be an arrow on the tyre markings which indicates which direction they should rotate

hope that helps smile

Thanks.

A little bit of research has suggested you're right, and they're not directional. I just thought they looked like they should face the same way, so assumed they were directional. I am a pleb then.

Looking good then. Thanks again.

Do yourself a favor (and everyone else on track with you) and don't go buying 2nd hand tyres off of ebay to run on the track, if you don't know there history is it worth taking the risk?

This.

At least ask the seller to give you the DOT codes on the tyres. Then you can determine how old the tyres are. You should never buy tyres that are more than a few years old
