Lack of anything more important, and one story making any subsequent minor wouldn't-even-make-the-local-news stories rise to national prominence.

What was the US media obsessed with in the first week of September 2001? Shark attacks. If anyone spotted a dorsal fin off the US coast, it was reported. There weren't actually any more shark attacks that year than any other year, but if it's being reported, it must be news, right?

The feeders!!!! Direct ecidence that some people are stupid beyond belief.

Also when people were talking to the fox trapper / pest bloke about how he dealt with it when he'd taken it away, who else thought it was on the tip of his tongue to say " I just shoot the little bastids, wtf do you think I do?"
