Police Medical Assesment
Discussion
I went through it about 2 years ago, when I re-joined the Police. I don't believe it's changed. You do a confidential medical questionaire. Then a nurse and doctor will do a basic medical, i.e. blood pressure, and the obligatory boxer shorts down and cough (if you're a bloke).
You will also have an eyesight test. Can't be specific on this, different forces have different standards, but basically, if you don't wear glasses and you mince pies are OK you should be fine. If you wear glasses, or have had laser treatment etc... then I suggest you call the relevant recruiting department.
Then there is a hearing test. You sit in a soundproof booth with earphones on, and have to press a button when you hear sounds in each ear. Not too many fail this, but do not do to any pubs/clubs the week before.
And then there is the so-called fitness test. It used to be quite tough (when I were a probationer....bore..... ). Now, a 5 ft, 15 stone coach potatoe could pass it. On one leg. It really is a joke.
