Knackered Dogs - Gearbox

Morning All,
Gear engagemnt Dogs have begun to round off on my ancienct JK Dog box on my race Mini - slots are showing accelerated signs of wear to. JK Spares are no longer available and I have seen companies that refurbish dogs, a process that I don't profess to knowing much about. Do they add material back to the existing dogs? Welded/reground? I find this hard to believe based on the forces involved!
Does anyone have any experience of these companies and any positive experiences/recommendations?
Bit of insight into the proceesses would be appreciated?
