MOT fail. Rear S belt bust but what's it from?

Hello,

Well at least it was the only thing it failed on! It's the rear locking mechanism that's bust (the bit with the red button). The buckle goes in but nothing clicks or holds it in place. It feels like the insides have disintegrated. Suspect it will be a replacement job but what the hecks is it from, that's my question to anyone who knows?

I had a quick look at clev trev etc - there was some mention of unobtainable seatbelts for Griffs and Chims. I wonder of this means Cerbs are in the same boat. It is worth a call to say Racing Green parts or failing that to a breaker OR the chap on here who has taken out the rear of his car (the thread re S2000 seats).

Unbolt it and the webbing of the seat belt and re- MOT – it will pass.

Then you can get the part repaired/replaced at your leisure.

What your tester may not have told you is that the MOT only tests that FITTED seatbelts are in correct order – if it is not fitted, it cannot fail.

Talk to your tester to confirm.

Not quite right, if it's newer than 1986 it'll need certain rear belts, I'd take the seats out. Another cheaty way is to put a child seat in there and try and latch the belt together, they aren't allowed to touch it.

Thanks for the hints so far but I'd like to fix it so I don't have the same hastle next year. Does anyone know if they are from another car (like a fordy etc)or if they were specifically made for the Cerb?

I doubt very much they were specially made for the Cerb. Your best bet is to take the broken one to a scrapyard and hunt around for one, it'll be a rear one as it has a short 'arm'.
