Hi all,

My wife is a teacher and was trying to think of a present to give each of her pupils at the end of the year.

She has had the same class for three years now and in that time they have done lots of activities involving music and songs etc.

Wife was thinking of making a CD for each pupil with a compilation of songs that they had used together. All songs have been purchased by us....

...but is she liable to get into trouble for using the songs in such a way?

Yes. You have "purchased" those song for private use, not public performance / sale / resale / general use. Her school will have an MCPS licence I'm sure.... (cough, ahem).... so she can apply for those particular tracks and pay the relevant fees.

Yes, as you would be distributing copyright material for free ... I doubt your wife would get into any sort of trouble for it, but if a pupil mentioned it to someone who had some spare time on their hands, then perhaps something might happen!

Hmm, so perhaps she should tread carefully....

A right pain in the bum - one of those things you know realistically would go without issue, but deep down that one time....

Back to the drawing board!

Thanks chaps and chappesses!

An idea for your wife; Haribo, Celebrations or Cadbury's Heroes ... Grab a few tins and share out to the pupils in her form/class on the last day of term - They'll probably appreciate chocolate more than music on a CD! No chance of a run in with FACT either wink
