Centre armrest is creaking

Resting my elbow on the centre armrest sets off a cacophony of creaking and squeaking. Sounds like I've got a family of toads under there! Does anyone know if the armrest just lifts off? If so, I can try and free them back into the wild !

Sorry - it's a 2006 V8V, so it has the long, single piece armrest with the tray in the middle.
