I live in a victorian terraced house. Just about everyone in the street gets mice at some point. It seems that its currently our turn. Caught some in humane traps, but this doesn't seem to be getting to the solution. They just keep coming back.

Any experience/advice? All help greatly appreciated.

Use a proper mouse trap, keep at it and you'll get rid of them. Or get a cat?

They normally only hang about if there is a food source so turf out your cupboards and drawers and see if you can find evidence of them and/or there point of entry. And be very thorough in making sure there are no crumbs etc left about.

We had a load in under a wardrobe with a load of shredded paper til we moved the unit and left the cat in the room. Five bodies later, we never found where they came in but have never had any since.

Do you have a cat or can you borrow one? Let it explore the cupboards as often the scent is enough to deter the beggers.

Humane traps are fine so long as you take them far enough away to not be able to get back and that can be quite a distance!

If all else fails, poison but you have to find the bodies before the smell finds you!

HTH

ETA apparently peppermint oil is a very effective deterant

If you see one, there'll be hundreds. If you can find a single clear entry point you might be able to block it (I used expanding foam) but they are determined little things.

They aren't popping in for the company, they want food. Deny them it, and they'll likely go somewhere else.

Agree, wooden mouse trap running parallel to the skirting board, place on the trap a oily bird nut, not the salted type, happy hunting.

A couple of sticks of dynamite should flush the little blighters out, remember to stand well back after you light the fuse though.

Happy hunting!

Combination of poison and traps. It was the only way we managed to get rid of them in our old house.

Proper mouse trap with Terry's chocolate orange as bait (small bit melted into shape on the bait hook) - can't fail. In student digs I snared 10 in 45 mins.

Traps and block every hole no matter how small, with wire wool. They'll gnaw through almost anything. We had the buggers everywhere but the wire wool appears to have kept them out.

Good luck.

What a pity. I've had various cats for 20+ years and none of ever did that, nor anyone else's that I know of. Vomit, yes.

A mate of mine actually applied hammer to mouse in his uni digs! One of his flatmates had caught it under a bucket and didn't know what to do next, so my mate dug out a hammer and brayed the poor little furry sod. Apparently he overdid it a little and ended up covered in mouse guts and blood vomit
