Parcel delivery confusion
Discussion
Can any PHers make a useful suggestion of what to do in this situation, as I'm not really sure...?
I live in a block of flats, so receiving parcels is always difficult, and I normally get them delivered to work.
However, last Friday I got a City Link card through my door saying that they had tried to deliver a parcel, but I was out. Not sure how they got into the flats as only Royal Mail have a key, so I assume someone left them in.
The strange thing is though, I've not ordered anything from the internet recently, so I have no idea what it might be, or where it might be coming from.
Been busy this weekend, so I came home tonight and thought I'd give them a ring and go and collect it (the depot is about 25 miles away). However, when I looked on the internet tracking I saw that the parcel has actually been delivered, which seems strange as I certainly don't have it.
Phoned their customer service number, and when I got through, I gave them my consignment number and get told that yes, it has been delivered, and it was left outside in the 'porch'. The porch they are referring to is at the front entrance to the flats, which is completely open to the street. They even sent me a picture as proof:

That was at half 11 this morning - by the time I got home about half 6 it was not there, unsurprisingly I guess.
So, City Link apparently won't take responsibility for it, as their instructions said that it was to be left in a 'secure' location if no one was in, and that I am to contact the person that sent it to me. Problem is of course that I don't know who sent it! They could only tell me it has been sent by Seko Worldwide, who seem to be another logistics company. The only other information they gave me was that it weighed 10kg.
I'm not sure what to do now - it doesn't seem to be with any of my neighbours (at least, the ones that are in), so I'm guessing it's been taken - problem is that I don't know what has been taken! I guess I'm asking - should I do anything, or should I just forget about it as I haven't ordered anything anyway? This seems crazy as it must be meant for me, but I don't know what else to do!
Sorry for the long boring story...

Surely you've got them ther,e if the place they left it was open to the street it wasn't secureBit of a strange one especially as they have a photo of it, never heard of that
I know we (UPS) have a contract with a number of home shopping companies where the package doesn't need a signature and if the customer isn't in then we have to leave the package regardless and the shipper accepts all responsibility for it, this is their procedure apparently.
Could be similar to that, i know i've had stuff from City Link before and they wouldn't leave it with a neighbour or without a signature

Thanks, that's what the girl in the call centre said - apparently when they leave it, the shipper takes responsiblity if it gets lost/stolen. Problem is in this case I don't know who the shipper is!
Seems they take a picture everytime they try to deliver, I've got two other pictures (one from Thursday, one from Friday) of the closed door to the flats. I didn't get a card on Thursday, however.

can you not think of anyone who may have sent you something, box full of £20 notes for example.
I wish. No one I've asked so far seems to have sent me anything.MigX said:

The girl in the call centre even admitted that the driver shouldn't have left the package there, but then told me it's the senders responsibility, but as I don't know who the sender is, I'm stuck. It's not turned up now, so I think I'm just going to wonder forever what it was...

That is ridiculous.
Firstly, what's to stop the delivery driver taking a photo and then picking it up, taking it home to have a peak. A photo of a (random) box is not proof it was left.
Secondly, its irrelevant what is in the box to the courier company. They cocked up. It could be a box of air for all they care (heavy air, right?), the point is they have left it in a public place. Even if you don't know what it is, its totally irrelevant. Maybe a family members sent you some old photo albums etc...

does any one know anyone that work for city link? im sure with the tracking number they will be able to figure out who sent it.
i asked today if the driver that does the same area as me could help out with this but... he looks as miserable as he is so no luck from my end.
there is a few other delivery drivers. im sure one of them might be in good terms with city link.

but what do I say to them? I have no idea what it is or what the value of it is.
If they've lost it - then extraordinarily high, I'm sure - wasn't it?MigX said:

I had a great one today, came home to find a card from HDNL, nothing filled in except the bit where it says where the parcel was left and it said "by bake door" Spelt just like that! As i live on the first floor i was confused as to where the back door was. I took some recycling out tot he bins later on and low and behold thru the side gate to the communal garden was a package not addressed to me or even my street just the same number.

Why not contact Seko Worldwide http://www.sekologistics.com/uk/contact-us/ and tell them the predicament ... that your package has been stolen due to City Link messing up. Ask them to resend, or at least confirm which part of your order was contained in the package
