I've just got back a certain car shop in Doncaster after wasting 4hrs of my life with a 90mile round trip to look at a one owner, full VW service history Golf GT TDi only to get there, go on a test drive, discover the steering wasn't straight and then be told it's a two owner car with part VW service history.

Un-fking-believable. I must have spoke to them 3 or 4 times today and I asked the salesman to check that the car did have FVWSH and he even called me back to confirm.

I'm fed up of travelling to look at cars to find them completely mis-described.

Yep, I had this on Sunday. Travelled to a internet dealer in Leicester to find the SH wasn't VWSH at all. I walked away.

Makes you want to waste their time doesn't it?

Not that I would but having once travelled from Holland to the UK to purchase a 'mint' FSH Audi S3 that was in fact scratched, tired, lacking a FSH and generally st from a well respected importer whose name rhymes with bhfield imports I was ready to take revenge however I've treated it as a learning experience. Don't trust anyone.

Similar story with me, when I went and looked at buying a Subaru forester. was advertised full scooby service history, 11 months mot etc. I rang the salesman and asked if there is anything I should know about as I am traveling 2 hours to see it, to which he said no..when you see it, your buy it, its a great car.

well I turn up and this is what I found

2 service sheets with no book, one subaru and the other one was a random garage. ( car had 80k on clock)
no current MOT
2 bald tyres
front pads almost metal on metal
cd player did not work
heated seat did not work
and to top it off, the car was miss firing on idle and almost stalling when I swithced on the aircon.

needless to say I was fuming having been completly lied too..When I walked in I remained polite and said I am not interested, he asked me what I found, I said X Y Z..and he had the check to say, I am due another one in a few weeks if you want to come and see it!

So how do you go about wasting these s time? teacher

Only time my time has been wasted was a short 5 mile journey to look at a "tidy, well maintained mx5" Every panel was dented/scratched. Drivers seat had an 8 inch tear in it. Carpet in the boot was ripped to shreds, ripped hood RUST RUST RUST. Wanted 2000 for it. Told him he'd have to pay me to take that pile of st off his hands.

Yup - our best friends just had a Saturday wasted on a "mint" "one owner" fsh Focus - which meant tired, ex-hire car (ok, technically one owner) with an A4 sheet of sporadic "service history". They walked away.

I reckon dealers know that 80% of people will have "shiny car syndrome" and buy these sheds anyway.

The worrying thing is that dealers say it to us, they obviously say it to people who know nothing about cars and get away with it.

Makes me laugh really. If anyone on here mentions something that could be considered as wasting a dealer's time, they get shot to flames. But dealers wasting your time? Nothing.

We've all been there.
But for every couple of misdescribed stters, there will be one misdescribed/undersold gem.

Surely diesel Golfs are a bit like rats...you're never more than x feet away from one - do you really need a 90 miles round trip to view one?

I used to get this looking at cars, now when I speak to the dealer on FSH I ask for dates and mileage and garage serviced at, if they cant get the paperwork I walk away. Now I buy most of my cars from Auction, I actually enjoy the experience, you generally will find 2 or 3 cars that take your fancy and they will tell you if it has stamps in the book whether the mileage is verified etc... plus you get to see some proper bad boy sheds go for silly money on a saturday!

If I'd spoken to a dealer about specific things and then got there to find that they'd lied I would take my sweet time looking at the car, negotiating and then walking away at the last minute. I've wasted my time going there anyway because the prat lied in the first place.

I don't know about other manufacturers but the 'dub have been very helpful when I ring up the local garage and ask them to confirm when the last service at a VW garage was, whether it has been subject to recalls, whether the cam belt has been done etc...

Doesn't help for this one but in future you might save yourself a wasted journey.

I agree with you though, it is extremely annoying when they misrepresent the car and hope you don't notice. It's a lot like dealing with the Chinese - everything is OK so long as nobody notices! We had to put phosphorescent paint on parts that we rejected back to China because they would just turn up again in another batch.

I went to see a MY'00 Honda Civic VTI-S in Doncaster again, around 3 year's ago. Another one owner mint condition 40k mile car garaged all it's life. I only traveled 25 miles, but I dragged the family out and took a day off work to find a rusty heap of st with one completely flat tyre. I pointed out some of the issues with the car and he retorted with what do you expect for a 7 year old car!!! It was £2k+ IIRC

I was after a particular spec/colour. Whenever I go looking for a car there never seem to be any local to where I live.
