Not knowing the LS7 beast as I did engines of the 70s ..(DON'T TITTER! I am learning FAST!)
... I would like conformation as to what these are and where they fit into the scheme of things:

And Finally, My Aircon Compressor needs an adaptor block to fit the Ultima hoses, so anyone able to tell me what to get and where?

Thanks Guys....Keith

Yep, The steam thingy was the easy one!
I would love to know what the plastic capped (one cap in red, one bigger in black) tube ends are in the photo. On the LS7 install, these are at the top front of the engine (in front of the plenum chamber)above the water pump housing.
My guess is that one of them is some sort of Oil vapor vent? but then I am probably wrong!
cheers

Actually this is a brand new, never used, engine, and as you can see the smaller plastic port is covered by a red soft cap, and the bigger black rt ange one is covered by a rather perished black soft cap.
This engine came via Jeff direct from the GM factory.
Just thought I would ask you guys thinking it was a dimwit easy question, before hassling jeff for an answer.
Obviously this appears to be a bit of a mystery!
Maybe these are an inlets for the world's smallest procharger???
I WISH!

Are they vacuum sources for servo brakes and PCV?
Steve
i think your right Steve, with the manifold on the correct way for a front engined set up that hose end with the black cover would be pointing directly at the vacume booster for the brakes. Where would the dry sump tank or rocker cover port normally sit in a LS7 vet ? Steve

Goodness, graceous me! Have I stumped everyone?
Can't believe it!

No......having been through this I can tell you that on mine (LS3) the large pipe is for brake booster (keep plugged) the other smaller pipe I believe is for EVAP (keep plugged) I have also plugged the other EVAP pipe behind the throttle body....BUT as I said mine is an LS3 not a 7 so not sure if you have the same breathers as me.
Can't believe it!

SO, with this very useful info I have a cunning plan......
...I should be able to use the bigger of the two for a feed to my...Servo assist clutch, cos I am old and weak! Brilliant!
The smaller one then is a dopple-ganger of the evap trap thingy I broke off next to the throttle chamber, and then got a new one made out of ally! ..so I will keep this capped!
Ta for the revelations!
Ooooh! I love this forum!

I have the same compressor as you Keith. How does your AC work, is it from the Ultima loom or from the engine/ECU loom?
Mine is from the Ultima loom but the compressor has an extra terminal, not sure how to wire it.
Any ideas??
Off to Le Mans on Thursday so be quick!!!!!!!!!!!

OK, I had to do quite a lot of research and then some by comparing the occasional conflicting advice, and this is what I have ended up with - so I used the LS7 A/C 2 pin waterproof plug from the ECM loom (mine is the std GM one), then the a/c request wire coming from the ECM is patched into the Ultima loom to the switch. Then all the rest (fan and airdryer) are connected as normal via the Ultima loom.
Obviously I ma not in a position to test this yet, but all this sounds completely logical.
Hope that helps
Keith - and good luck and have fun!
Thanks Keith, seems my loom is different I have a motorsport loom, doesn't have A/C connector in the loom, not sure which terminal does what on the compressor, was hoping that it was a simple case of connecting the wire from the Ultima loom to one of the terminals and the other to earth...but I guess that would be too easy......
mmmmm
mmmmm
