Somebody please tell me I'm not going bonkers. SWMBOs ladylogic is doing my head in.

We have two drop tops.

In either one I get in, hit the switch and lower the roof, making it topless.

She gets in, hit's the switch and raises the roof, making it topless.

Her logic goes something like...."the roof lifts up, going high, which means I'm raising it. When I put the roof down, it comes down and closes me in"

My logic, which being a chap must be right, natch says "no darling, when you put the roof down, you are stowing it away, when you raise it, you lift it out of storage into it's closed position".

Cue blank expression and "oh no, don't get that at all".

So, when you make a convertible open topped, is it roof up, or down?

After 26 years of marriage I'd be happy either way!

She is, as you say, bonkers!

There's always the possibility she means 'raze' rather than 'raise'.

EDIT - That might makes some sense when talking about putting the roof down but I guess she's just bonkers if she uses the term 'lowering' in relation to putting the roof up.

To explain it maybe compare putting an umbrella up with putting the roof up? Or is that a new can of worms being opened?

Boy was it ever another can of worms. Showed her that the PH consensus was that she was bonkers. Oh no, not having any of that. I tried the umbrella analogy.

She responed to my/our impeccable logic by saying "yes, but you close an umbrella when it stops raining so you close the roof when the sun comes out" meaning lowering the roof!

Aaaaarrrrggghhhhh!!!!!

She's lucky I don't make her drive the Micra....that's not even got a sunroof!

Over her head - up.

In the boot - down.

Explain it that way. If she still doesn't get it then I hope you married her for her looks...

(PS. why am I thinking 'Father Ted'....)
