I have a 54-plate Mondeo 1.8 LX, with 62k on the clock. The suspension seems tight enough, but it's getting a bit wallowy and fidgety, especially at the back. I'm thinking the dampers are probably past their best. The car was obviously a "school run" car before I got it, so had been negotiating Belfast's rutted excuse for a road network.

What sort of miles are people changing dampers at on Mk3 Mondeos?

I'm looking at replacing the standard Sachs with Bilstein B4 OE spec dampers, or I can get the same Sachs units for the same price - which is likely to be the better option? Same as OE, or Bilstein's version?

Subframe is fine (checked before I bought the car). I'm pretty sure it's the dampers, the rear is wallowing like a tired old Vectra, but still grips fine, so I assume the dampers aren't....er...damping low frequency bouncing.

For the set of OE Bilsteins it's £171 all in from ECP. Sachs (which the car has fitted from factory) are a few quid cheaper.
