Alfa 156 Buying Advice

Hi Im looking to venture into the world of alfa ownership!

Im looking to spend approx £1500 on either 2.0 or 2.5 v6 with under 100k miles.

Could anyone please advise me on the following:

1. What to look out for when purchasing one of these cars

2. Whats the difference in fuel economy in between the two engine sizes

3. (stupid question as I think I already know the answer!) Does the performance/sound of the v6 justify the lower mpg

Most of the driving will be a 10 mile to and from work, however I do have the occasional long distance (circa 50 mile) journey and need the car to be reliable.

I love mine, 2.5 V6, short mileage, reliable and drinks. 300 odd on a tank for motorway cruising, 200 if I'm lucky for short trips. Is it 10 miles there AND back or 10 in total? If there and back, V6 wouldn't be too bad if it's not back roads, but sensible head says 2.0.

Suspension, rust, cam belts, usual checks. (although I did buy one that needed a top end rebuild due to worn cams - fully expecting her to carry on longer than me now)
