Hi

I'm looking to buy a Dicovery or Vogue and am after advice as I am new to the world of 4x4. I don't have a great deal to spend (18k max) and am thinking of going the auction route possibly but before I decide to go with it I wanted to see what the consensus was on both these vehicles and what I should be looking out for? Any help would be much appreciated?

Having just gone in the opposite direction (2005 RR Vogue to 2006 Disco), then the long and the short of it would be:

7-seats, utilitarian, don't care if it gets trashed, useful all round vehicle with some creature comforts = Disco every time.

Pure luxury but still with go-anywhere ability, only 5 seats = Rangie every time.

If it weren't for needing to cart about extra nephews and nieces, and wifey's insistence, I'd have stuck with the Rangie. Incomparably brilliant cars. The Disco is ace, don't get me wrong, but the Rangie is just that couple of notches better still.

Thanks for the info RL. Much appreciated. I am tempted by the Vogue
but am i right in thinking it costs more to run and service
than the Disco? Would make sense being the more expensive vehicle.

Wouldn't have thought there's a whole lot in it. Both are big heavy cars, both have a lot of tech inside - the RR with lots of BMW tech and a smattering of Jag/Ford bits, and Disco wholly Jag/Ford bits, so neither are exactly "cheap", but nor are they ruinous.

In 50k, I never had a single issue with my Rangie, it was faultless and glorious, my Disco has however cost me a fair whack thanks to factory / build related issues - on the other hand, most would probably say they'd except the results to be the other way around!

I drove plenty of both during my buying process this winter.
I settled on my Vogue (4.4 on gas)
The Disco is a couple of notches below on the luxury scale.
I couldn't be happier.
I hope you get the right car for your needs. Right brand whatever happens.
