Just saw a lady with a rather long front mudguard. Upon closer inspection she had her handlebars on correctly, but her forks were back to front with the curve bending in towards the frame making a rather short wheelbase.

The joys of mail-order 'put it together yourself' bikes coupled with people who have no idea.

The amount of kids I see at the local park riding bikes with the forks back to front is ridiculous. The parents must buy them mail order or from argos or something and attempt to put them together.

When I lived in London my housemate got fed up with people chaining bikes to our railings - we lived about 100yds from a tube and some mornings you'd have to vault the damn things to get out of the house... not to mention the bds would wake me up (I was working nights at the time)

So he took to going out with his 13mm spanner and turning saddles round 180 degrees.

It never ceased to amaze us how many people wouldn't notice until they'd got halfway down the road.

Childish, but seemed to work.

I seen and heard of Halfords-built bikes having the forks on the wrong way round, including quite expensive mountain bikes. Mental.

Sadly not. Google 'bso' or 'bike shaped object' - someone was blogging on the subject somewhere and detailed a number of catalogue shots with reversed forks.
