Just had the dreaded Foxtons round to value the house, okay they say it's worth loads, will sell in ten mins, usual stuff...

They do have the best website (true) and the longest hours (probably true) but say it's 2.5% FIXED, no movement. Is this them trying to get their money back after buying the business at a vastly inflated price?

Surely bks?

Anyone confirm this?

Nope but it would be my play to call whoever are next door to them (Estate agents, like hyenas tend to hunt in packs) and ask them what their fee would be for a house worth x.

Then take .5% off then call Foxtons back saying you're going with the people next door.

2.5% seems like an awful lot to me for a couple of photos and some hair gel.

If that's what they charge then pay it or don't use 'em.

PS they are s

Why not use the likes of housenetwork.co.uk and pay a flat fee? They get your house on rightmove which is the most important thing these days. Unless you can't be bothered with the hassle and value your time more.

I know they are s I bought through them too, what I am curious to know is that this is true or not as Winkworths who are next door said 1.5% no probs...It's certainly bullish..

Got to pay for those MINIs somehow I suppose.

I recall seeing a fly-on-the-wall thingy on the telly about them once. Lots of evangelical clapping, whooping and bullst in meetings as the managers tried to psych them up.

Crock of st and a pack of s.

We got the same crap when we had them round to value ours, apparently you get a better service for the money !!
Eventually haggled down to .95% with another agent who was based practically next door to Foxtons and they sold our pad in a day so we were happy, that was only a few months ago. Best practice is to get your two lowest priced agents then play them off against each other.

I think it's true. We recently put our place on the market...had Foxtons round (yes they are s) along with several others. They all valued in line so it was down to who I thought could do the best job vs cost. Foxtons were pleading for the instruction but would not cut the 2.5% rate....I was amazed too! I explained to them there pricing structure was incentivising me to try another agent first and see if they could sell the place and if they failed I might then consider Foxtons....they didn't seem to understand that.

I think most estate agents are s/bent it's just that Foxtons seem to have turned it into an art form.

I gave up on them when they showed me a hovel for £250K or £265K that was a 'must see'. I told them that I'd lived in better digs as a student. Total piss-takers who I imagine must waste the time of the vendors as they over-market and over value (ages to shift) and buyers time by giving them false hope.

I sold my house in Nottingham using Bairstow Eves. They were fabulous and as decent as an estate agent could be. Very thorough too. And got the fee down too quite easily.

You pay for their enormous shops, staff bonus holidays, staff minis. Other companies don't offer these, so...

I've been shown the same flat by Foxtons and a.n other, and Foxtons added on £100pcm onto the advertised rent, as well as driving me there in a circuitous route to avoid me seeing the st 'hood, which I knew well enough anyway. aholes.

My inlaws might be selling too and we live next door, more or less.

On this basis they would be paying Foxtons 70k plus VAT to stick something on a website and show a few people round....The mind boggles

Nope. You wouldn't get me on TV for all the tea in China....or 2.5% plus VAT!

Does anyone else think Hampton's are also quite optimistic with their valuations?
