Am currently looking at possible kitchens for a new extension. Has anybody dealt with either Benchmarx or Optiplan and if so any comments? Looking for cream coloured shaker style but needs to be good quality with matching colour carcass.

We're currently getting a benchmarx kitchen installed. Looked around and it was a choice between howdens and benchmarx. They're pretty similar but I think benchmarx may have the edge in terms of quality. Carcasses are rigid (still needs all the internals assembling though) and drawer runners are 'blum', which i've heard is good. Installer did find a few bits in the delivery that were incorrect/missing and he was able to sort it directly with them quity easily.

We looked at Howdens but they dont do the carcasses in cream to match the doors. How did the prices compare as I will need to get my installer to get the Benchmarx price as they will not give prices to the public

Not sure if there is a Buildbase in Surrey? We got our units from them preassembled with a choice of coloured carcasses. We went for a smooth gloss door, but they definately do 'shaker' style ones too. They were very quick and pleasant at sorting the few minor issues we had, which I feel sorts the mens from the boys.

Benchmarx prices were very similar to Howdens, but we weren't in a rush and let them discount it over the course of a few weeks till we were happy with the price. They say the only deal with tradesman, but they seem quite flexible about that one.

Try diy-kitchens.com

Considerably cheaper than howdens in my experience, very good customer service and good quality cabinets too, with all blum runners and drawer systems. Very configurable too.

I found wrenkitchens.com to be very good quality and good customer service too. Avoid their 50mm laminate work surfaces though

Optiplan were great when we had a decent kitchen fitted , neighbour also used them with similar results , I assume you are Berks area ?

Bargain hard though , it took us a week of bargaining and walking away to get to the price I wanted to pay.

Unfortunately all was going well with Benchmarx until we found out the carcasses are all white. Had been misled as the special unit they have on display are cream but standard units are white. Seeing Optiplan next week so will see how that goes.

I work around the corner from a Benchmarx showroom and for what its worth when I talk to any of the kitchen fitters that come in they all rate Benchmarx stuff and dont really have any bad things to say about it.

Try Sheridan, Omega, Chippendale or Charles Rennie Mackintosh, same people who make Buildbase.

I hope his family are getting handsome royalties for the use of his name!

Omega looks interesting and they have a dealer not to far away so will give them a call.

Omega is the same as the Lucido range from Buildbase, but always seemed to be more expensive when I saw it for sale under the Omega name, so might be worth using Buildbase as a haggling lever.

We almost ordered the Charles Rene Mackintosh range ( I have to confess I didn't know who he was until I googled the name), but there was a mix up as to which finish was available in which range, so we went for 'Ultima' ready made instead. Although assembling kitchen units isn't difficult I was glad of the ready made units as it was just one less job to do.

Has anyone had a look at Neptune kitchens neptune.co.uk. Face framed, ply carcasses and their oak fronts are very nice.

Any experience?

Saw a Sheraton kitchen today and very impressed good quality and use Grass drawer systems which look very good. Also quite liked the look of a work surface called Encore so now waiting for a quote.
