My e39 540i. 280-off bhp.
Or for utter daftness, M-B S600 from the early 90s.
half sensible choice would be jaguar XJR or even XJ12
Can you get a Bentlry Turbo R for that price?

does anybody see the M-B W140 series around on the road in the last few years?

for such a tank they seem few and far between.

Evo for me. Earlier ones are bargain prices and even a 4 can be had for £5k from what I remember.

Spend the change on some tweaks and see 400hp. (Ignoring the fact that given the ridiculous weighting something like my £200 Jag would have walked it.)

I'd probably go for a C36 AMG.

This is sold but something similar wouldn't go amis...

A3 2.0 TDI S-Line for Sir?

Jag XJR for me I think. Or a Lancia Thema 8.32, even if the handling's crap.

R33 GTR skyline's are still too expensive frown

Probably Evo 4 or try and get an M5, not sure which gen though.

It's a shame because the cars they had are 3 cars i've loved the look of since i was a child, and I love the idea of sports or 'super' saloons.

You can get better examples of those for 5k though - I suspect half the problem was they had to buy in a hurry

How big is the family? I'd love a 928 if the family kids were little, but I think TG was 4 door.

TBH, I think you'd have to go some to beat the M3 - thee are probably faster options, but you'd need reliability as a huge priority as you;d be driving to / from track. However, I'd be sorely tempted by...

nah i was quite shocked no1 went for a Evo or Subaru aswell... but bearing in mind, think they were buying from germany, so dont know how there used market is compared to here... I'd had thought the sab 9-3 Turbo thingy would have been quite good...

I don't think they bought the cars in Germany.. all 3 cars were on british plates and were right hand drive IIRC

MX-5 would be in interesting 'super saloon', also all the cars were UK registered smile i suspect like someone else said, they bought unseen from an advert due to them not wanting to draw attention to themselves. Ask the PH who they bought the Sierra Cossie from! Atleast they didnt do any pointless smashing up.

Me personally i probably would of gone for an M3 saloon also, Been offered one in much better condition for half the £4k he paid!

other options would of been:
C36/43, E55, Dog of an E34 M5.
