Has anyone got any recommendations for lightweight alloy wheels? Just wondered if anyone could recommend a good supplier/brand??

Also, how much would one expect a 'lightweight' wheel weigh?

As always,

Cheers

What radius/width wheel size and what sort of price range are you looking at?

OZ spring to mind, many years ago they released the Superleggera, and in 15" it weighed 4.9KG. It has been since been super seeded and I'm sure other manufacturers have caught up, bettered it by now.

In 15" the OZ Ultraleggera is still lightest. 15", depending on the offset is still 4.9KG. Enkei RPF1 is about 4.5KG and the TD prorace 1.2 is slightly more but a fair dollop cheaper. Anything lighter than that will be special order magnesium stuff and won't be overly good for road use.

Of course the size and application will affect the weight, what does the OP need wheels for?

14x5.5 or 14x6.

Not for road use I will say.

I will look up the Oz and see if the come in that size.

Depends what your budget is really, you can probably get lighter forged stuff than listed from someone like BBS or Rays, but they're pricey

Desmond Regamaster Evos

In 15" I think they were about 3.8kg. Forged too. Desmond are relatively unknown for some reason, so they're usually not that expensive...if you can find some. They're no longer in production but appear on eBay and various Japanese car forums (they're popular with the JDM crowd - not sure why, they were made in Russia AFAIK).

EDIT: Not sure if they did 14" but they may have done.

Risotto - those would be great. Unfortunately, judging by the research I did last night, they didn't make them in a 14.

scotty_D - same issue according to my furious Google-ing last night!

jon- - wouldn't mind some of those, but at over £250 a corner is WAY over my budget new. Will continue Google-ing and see if I can find some second hand ones.

Cheers

They made SuperL's in 14". I used to have a set i'm sure, on a 106.
How odd - I couldn't find any reference to them?

I thought they did/dp the Superturismo GT ( OZ Site )

Maybe it's something they used to do?

Volk are amongst the lightest but not cheap. Cheap would be Rota which I like but some people don't.

The team dynamics wheels are reasonably light and available in a range of sizes- they'll do custom sizes too IIRC.

As others have said OZ ultraleggera and superleggera are quite light.

Compomotives are pretty light aren't they? Or am I wrong in thinking that most of them are forged?

Volk TE37, Racing Hart CP035, BBS and various Enkei wheels are all popular lightweight 15" options in MX5 circles. Actually if its 14" you're after you may be able to find standard Mazda 14" BBS wheels reasonably cheap second-hand as MX5 owners like to upgrade to 15".

Well, I went out and bought a set of magnesium wheels which are extremely light - less than half what is on there at the moment which I am of course pleased about!

Thanks for your replies - I did look into them all. Honest! These just cropped up and were (seemingly!) good.

Mags will always be amongst the lightest, but they're not really suited for road use as its quite a reactive metal and road salt will corrode them at an incredible rate. Though you mentioned that it wasn't road car so that might be fine
