Please bare with me, I will get to the point in the end.

I've been using a Road Angel Navigator for the past 5 years or so (and before that the New Road Angel). Problem is, since their deal with TomTom, RA have stopped supplying navigation units and have gone back to just supplying camera warning systems, and therefore no longer support the Navigator hardware (my windscreen mount is on it's last legs and I cant get a replacement. If the unit does die I cant get a replacement, etc), so I have been looking at an alternative.

What I like about the Navigator is that the camera warnings are nice and bold, and also when not navigating it shows up the gps speed in nice big bold numbers (handy in the TVR and it's notoriously poor speedo accuracy). My Audi (and the car I'm in most of the time) has satnav built in.

I've tried using my wife's TomTom Start, but the camera warning, compared to the RA is, well, pants. One little measly bleep and a small flashing symbol. Also the gps speed display isn't very prominent (although I'm sure once used to it I will know where to look with the casual glance)

So, my choices for a replacement are a decent TomTom (say Europe XXL) or a RA Professional Connected (and when I need navigation in the Cerb just stick the old Navigator back in for the journey). I dont need all the bluetooth/Google search/cheapest petrol etc gubbins of the top of the range TomToms

So, finally, we get to the questions:

A plus of the TomTom is that the camera warnings include Europe (which the RA doesnt). I do a couple of EuroJaunts each year. There has been talk for some time of the UK falling into line with Europe with regards to speeding fines in that if you get a ticket over 'there' it will go on your UK licence (which it currently doesn't). Does anyone know if/when this will happen?

Does the larger/better TomTom have a better camera warning than the Start?

TIA smile

Not really an answer to your questions, but have you had a look at www.pocketgpsworld.com They offer a (low cost subscription based)speed camera alert database which includes spoken pre-warnings of the type of camera and limit, and you can configure how early you get the warning etc. Works very well on my TomTom 930T
