Just took her out for a drive this morning and could hear a loud and fast ticking noise, you can hear it at idle and also through the lower gears..worried it could be something serious?? Car drives fine though...had tappets adjusted 4k ago..sods law I was telling everyone it has never given me a problem!

Thanks

Check my thread called "The Dreaded Ticking" from a week or so back. Sounds the same to me.

At idle, try getting yourself a metal rod or tube and push it onto the top of the cam cover in various places...put the other end sort of in-your-ear (I found gripping it with your hand and using your thumb to kind of push it against *not in* your ear gave the best effect)...you'll be amazed what you can hear. A real engine stethascope would be better of course wink I found with mine it was notably louder exactly over where the worn follower and cam lobe were.

Dont drive it, and dont run it for long IMO.

I had the same problem, thought it was tappets but checked them and couldn't find anything. Sent it for a service to make sure and found out the catalytic converter had broken down and got into the engine. £7400 rebuild later and I get her back tomorrow. Be careful my man.
