New Jaguar XJ - in demand!

In its first full month on sale the new Jaguar XJ has taken the market lead, outselling the Mercedes S Class by 38 percent and the BMW 7-Series by 70 percent.

The figures headline a strong sales story for Jaguar, which also boasts a sales increase of 50 percent for the XF.

"Like the XF, 60 per cent of people that have ordered an XJ are new to the Jaguar brand, with owners of premium German brands proving to be the keenest to buy an XJ. This highlights just how well the XJ has been received among Britain's leading businessmen," says Geoff Cousins, Jaguar's MD.

"The modern Jaguar showroom is now complete, with the new XJ joining the XF and XK in UK showrooms during May. We have got off to a great start, with more than 600 new XJs already on the road in the UK and customer deliveries now starting in earnest."

In June 2010 the XF outsold all models of the Audi A6 and BMW 5-series here in the UK, says the company as 995 XFs were sold compared to 968 Audi A6s and 937 BMW 5s.

In the first half of this year 6741 XFs have been sold in the UK, up 47.6 per cent from 2009's half year figure.

The XF performance there is arguably the more impressive, as that's an established model which is still slightly ahead of the competition. You'd expect the XJ to have strong sales in its first few months...

Walking round the Jaguar stand at the Festival of Speed, it struck me what a really solid range a cars Jaguar produce now. Always liked the XF and the XJ takes the luxury to a new level.

Good on Jag and Tata, things really seem to be working well for them at the moment. Certainly when I saw pictures of the dash (sadly I'm yet to sit in one), Rover 200 wasn't what sprang to mind! In my opinion it makes the Aui/BMW/Merc offerings look rather old fashioned unimaginative. Would certainly be my choice, if I could have one.

I reckon it looks best in black with tinted glass, to maximise the effect of the wrap-around rear window, but would you end up looking too much like a government minister?

I went on a factory tour a while back. Really interesting: the whole body in white is riveted or glued, no welding. The final structure is somehting like 40% waht it would weigh in steel.

And inside its a beautiful place to be. I did suggest they use the RR technology (where the screen shows different images dependimng on the angle) for the dash instruments, therefore the passenger can only see 70mph maximum, regardles of what the true speed was!

I think jaguar have the most desirable line-up of cars of any volume manufacturer at the moment. All of them are very, very good cars.

They took a big risk and it was well worth it.
And at last very well for the British motor industry and all employees.

I find this very satisfying that this brand is back to great strength.

Walked past the Jaguar showroom in Watford the other day and they had two on the forecourt, one in black and one in blue like in the picture. The black one looked stunning from any angle, even the rear. I think darker colours definitely suit it better. Look forward to seeing more on the roads.

I saw the car in the viewing studio at the factory last year and knew immediately they were onto a winner

In 1988 I bought one of the very first XJ40s at the launch and it cost me just £17,500 : amazing because that was 325i money back then.

Sadly, a £60,000 car is beyond me now but if I was in the market, the XJ would be at the very top of my list.

During my visit, Jaguar design staff said they were targeting the Maserati Quadroporte rather than the A8, S Klasse or BMW 7.

The result is a car that makes the Maserati look positively staid and totally blows away the German cars.

Add to this the unbelievable improvements that Jaguar's in-house engineers have made to the Diesel engines compared with the versions of the same engine in other maker's cars and they have produced a truly fantastic car.
