V8S Windscreen
Discussion
Anyone know where I may be able to source one of these from please?
The saga started with a call to the brokers helpline saying it needed looking at as it may be repairable.
I was told a technichan would be there between 16.00-20.00 on 28 May. I phoned at 19.30 to ask if they were still coming and was told 'don't know'.
I had a call from a 'manager' the next day apologising saying they had a screen on the van too. I expressed surprise at this as clearly they would view it first to see if it was repairable as there will not be many screens around, so what a coinicidence they had one on the van (rememebr this point for later in the tale).
Anyhow, they came out on 1 and 2 June. Yes, 2 days. That was because I had a star crack in the MG and they couldn't visit to look at 2 cars on the same drive on the same day (thereby saving them time and money). Odd, as that was exactly what they were going to do on the previous visit.
On arriving, they said it was not repairable which is fair enough. Off they went to order a new screen.
Another appointment made, this time they turn up an hour and a half early. Not a great problem other than there was nobody there to let them have the keys (as they were early). However, they looked at the screen and said - hmm this one won't fit as it's flat - well it would be as it was for a wedge.
No problem, they'll just order a new one.
I didn't hear anything.
Therefore I phoned them on 24 June. I was told they couldn't find one. However, the manager called an hour and a half later to say one would be here and fitted by 2 July. I heard nothing at all.
I complained to the Insurer today. They called back saying the fitter could not source a screen and had contacted TVR who said they were having one made especially. I pointed out TVR don't exist.....
Apparently this will take some weeks, yet the fitter didn't tell me.
Hence my question.
Although the Insurer did say the fitter may not want to fit a screen sourced from elsewhere.
As far as customer service goes, well I shan't type what I think!

Ta all
DG called me later on to say they had a call from a fitter in Leicester to send a V8S screen over. The same fitter.
By coincidence, could this be the same one that told the insurere they were having one made...
The letter of complaint will be an interesting one when this saga is over.
Have to phone another insurer today as the wedge screen is cracked from top to centre so I'll see if they will deal with the one above

I phoned Mobile windscreens and was quoted £149 and was told it would take an hour or so. Should have realised it was too good to be true, the boss phoned me back straight away and said the girl in the office had got it wrong. It would cost me £290 and they would need my car for two days?
Sounds a long time, anyway I am looking round and biding my time as I only need a new screen because of the milky delamination round the edges. I did consider painting it with glass paint!

Hi guys i had a new windscreen fitted in my S3 in 2007. I rang around local to me [northwest area] and eventually settled on a company in st helens. They sent a guy out who had done TVR screens before, he came to the house and fitted it to the car in my garage, and he made a great job of it too. It was a screen with the tinted green band on the top.and there seemed to be no problem in getting them, at least there wasnt in 2007. Total cost from memory was about £220. I had a receipt with the company name on, but i gave this with all previous service history/parts bills etc to the new owner, when i sold the car on, and i dont have an address or contact number. He must read on here now and again as he was at s club this year. So if you purchased a nimbus grey 1990 s3 off Tom crawford in warrington, check that a4 file with all the history in, and post the name of that windscreen co i used, thanks Tom.
