I need to do a transfer to a Commerzbank account in Germany. There is a branch in London so I'll give them a call tomorrow but is it going to be a straightforward process?

Yes, should be. As long as you have the IBAN number of the account the money is going to (maybe also the relevant bank's sort code or BankLeitZahl- BLZ - as ze Germans call it) then Robert is your Father's brother.

It'll be a SEPA payment and you need IBAN (sort code & acc but that is in the IBAN anyway). Beneficiary name and address too.

Once you know the IBAN number, your own bank should be able to do it, costs £10-20

Thanks. I have all the details I'm just trying to avoid the charges as it makes what I have bought rather less of a good deal.

You won't avoid the charges, unless.....

How much is it you're transferring?

Might be able to do you a favour.

How did you get on with this matey?

I need to do exactly the same thing next week.... My German Lawyer has set me up an account with the Commerzbank in Germany and has sent me all the account details to make the transfer from my UK bank. I have been a bit nervous about making a large transfer as i have no contacts at the German bank.... Do you have any contacts i could speak to at the Commerzbank in the UK (to verify the account and arrange the transfer)?

I secured a very good exchange rate through 'Currency Solutions' a couple of weeks back (and i'm glad i did!) so the bank transfer is the last thing i need to do.

Commerzbank have a branch in London who speak good english wink

They weren't much help with the transfer mind.

My bank could offer a Euros to Europe transfer which would cost a minimum of £10.

I have worked something out with the vendor (it was a small amount of money) and I had another kind offer (as above, cheers chap) from a friend of a friend who has both euro and GBP accounts.
