Perhaps they are trying to save some money by stopping the chancers that "say" they have a lower quote but don't, anyway if you have proof of a lower price whats the problem in sending them a copy wink.
Generally i will try and do something about the price if a policy holder is unhappy about it regardless of whether they had another lower quote or not!.

Well, last year I stumped up £1600, this year they want £1300, it's not bad, but it's still over £100 a month.

Tell them to fk off, cancel the renewal, and take the other quote at the lower price.

Unless you don't have a cheaper quote, in which case you'll have to grit your teeth, pay the going rate, and accept that you couldn't blag it this time laugh

As above, just got to the company offering the lower quote smile

This year Adrian Flux (who were my current insurer) wanted £400 more than the lowest premium I found. They offered to match it if I sent them evidence of the lower premium etc.....

I thought "Sod it, I'm not doing the legwork for them to get money out of me" laugh

Either they want your business or not, if it's a matter of a few pounds I'd just go to the company who offered you the lower quote out of principle smile

When you think about it Flux are supposed to be quoting you the best price from a panel of over 40 insurers, and they are also supposed to specialise in non standard risks, so if they can't even get within £400 of a quote you found on the internet then they're not really working very hard to keep your business are they?

And the problem is?

Simply refer them to whoever is offering you the better quote. I see nothing unreasonable in them asking you to substantiate your claim.

Given the mods done to your car in your profile I'd pay it and enjoy drivng it.

Who can blame them? I've had this asked a couple of times now and I just give the details of the lower quote provider.

I'm currently waiting for my renewal docs through from Mr Flux. Urk!

A Plan have always been rediculously competitive for me. This last renewal the helpful chap I called to renew the insurance checked a few details then called me back with a quite a further £40 lower than their renewal.

Better than Eon's effort at trying to keep our Gas/Electric supply

Callcentre Jockey - Hello, I'm phoning to ask why you're cancelling your Eon subscription

Me - Because British Gas knocked on my door and offered me a better price. That and you cocked up our meter readings over the last few months and we ended up with a ridiculous bill.

CJ - Well unfortunately we can't do anything about your bill, but British Gas haven't really offered you a better deal, we all use the same sources so our prices and rates are just different balances of the same thing.

Me - Well British Gas's balance of the same rates suited me better

CJ - Well it can't do, they're all the same.

Me - Well they're not, I've been through the rates and the rate limits and they did, plus they eliminated your gas transport charge. Plus they offered some sort of boiler maintenance package included in the price.

CJ - Yes, we do have a GTC, but it's only £50 per year. And you'll most likely find the boiler maintenance cover is very limited.

<long pause>

Me - So that's it, you're not going to offer me a better deal, suggest another one of your packages that would suit me better, or even offer to knock off an arbitrarily small charge that's an easily defineable difference between you and British Gas?

CJ - ... Well we're sorry we couldn't offer you a better deal now but we're confident that you'll discover that British Gas will be charging exactly the same and you'll return to us eventually. Thank you for your business

And that was it!

Just managed to pick myself off the floor after getting my Flux renewal yesterday. Why do they not check the renewal against the current premium? They tend to be good at matching though.

had a simliar thing previously as a young driver myself, had a renewal abit high ,, had a look around and was offered like £380 less elsewhere

Phoned them up and was told that alot of the time as renewals are generaly auto generated on the same company - it may not be the best market this year. He put me on hold and Whoalla i had a rate £36 less than the competitor and had breakdown aswell ( was 3 years ago with 2 years bonus tho. ) All i had to do was send a copy which i did and i enjoyed the money well saved for 2 hours searching.

Might be worth having a look with the current guys if you give them proof .. .it will only take you 2 mins to scan and send in and could save you further - in my mind £50 in my pocket is better there than wth anyone else ... also if you have not had a bad experience, why be stern and just give them the benfit of the doubt this year.

I had a similar experience with a BMW dealer recently. I sent them an email offering X plus my car for a car in their used stock

They called me back and left a message saying it would need to be 2X plus my car.

I thought 'stuff that' and didn't call them back.

A couple of days later they rang me again and i answered. They asked me if i was still interested in the car, so i said "yes but i'm not really interested in the price"

At this point you might expect the negotiations to start.....

He just said "oh, well, bye then" and hung up.

It was totally and completely Monty Python. Sometimes companies are really fking stupid

Adrian Flux really pissed me off recently.
I got my 'automatic renewal' price emailed to me and it was almost £300 more than last year despite my circumstances remaining the same, except for me being 30 years old rather than 29.
Last year I paid £510, this year they wanted almost £800.

I then had to phone them 4 times over the course of a day, with lower and lower quotes off other insurers which they then magically 'matched' and promised me each time I called that it was 'definitely, definitely, their best price this time'.

They basically tried to stiff me with a huge increase, see if I noticed, then dicked me about all day while I haggled them down.

They are supposed to be a broker, and therefore supposed to get me the best price full stop, without me having to waste a day on the phone making them admit 'the last price wasn't out best but this one is'...

If they do the same with my other car they can insert their automatic renewal price up their arse.
