I drive an MG ZR which IMO is a good balance for young folk, the 1.4 is nippy enough to have fun but slow enough to stay out of trouble. (kind of). And also looks great without standing out too much, except the yellow ones!

To be honest. Insurance is painful, but that can be said of any car at our age!

Eddh. Is your non-race CRX standard? Looks lovely and would be lovely completely original! Any pics/threads of it?

In fairness the newer ones probably aren't so bad, but I drove a Mk1 once and it was pretty awful.

I'm 22 and I love my Alfa, probably keep it another year or so and then chop it in for either a GT 3.2 or an E46 330i.

Yes it is, I have a few pictures of it on the Rally Wales tarmac stage:

Took me over a year to find it.

Eddh that is stunning. I had a look for a nice CRX before buying the zr but finding out without piles of rust or chav-raped was extremely hard! If you ever sell up I'll be interested wink

I had some quick cars when I was under 25,although insurance was much cheaper back then (pre 2005) although I seem to remember paying £1200 to insure my Cavalier Turbo and about £1000 to insure my circa 250bhp Renault 5 Turbo. Seemed a lot back then but a bargain compared to these days!

Insurance will kill you on anything even close to ''sporty''.

Had a little Pug 106 1.4 (£1600 to insure at 17) and a Renault Megane 1.6 (£1200 to insure at 19) until I was 21 then went crazy and bought a Rover Coupe Turbo (£770 to insure at 21) then an Alfa 156 V6.

24 now and got a 2.0 petrol Ford Focus (£230 to insure).

Next car has to be alittle mad to make up for 2 years of a Ford Focus!

18 with a Nissan Primera GT.

Unfortunately I looked at one in october, and the insurance quotes said 1300, but it was a cat c write off, and I didn't want the hassle, so i found the next one in january, after the snow, and the insurance had shot up to 1700, and this model is a bit of a dog.

By the time I sell it it may well have the engine and running gear from the race car in it, although it will still be a full interior road car.

When I passed my test at 17 I bought a Fiesta RS Turbo.

Everyone assumed I would die in a ball of flames but I would say it was the best way for me to learn to drive properly. Had my silly moments in it as I assume most 17 year old's would but reckon it was a safer car to drive than a 1.1 Fiesta etc.
