Apologies for posting this on here, but the wife is in tears at the prospect of having to have our cats put down.

We are emigrating, and move out of our home on 20th July, and we need to rehome our cats before then. At the moment, it is looking like the only option is to have them put down, which is obviously rather upsetting for the wife. We are happy to drive anywhere in the country to rehome them.

Below is the text of an ad that we have distributed locally, and a link to a photo.

Akira, a 7 year old neutered male pedigree Somali (fawn). Fully house trained, uses a cat flap. Vaccinated and micro chipped. A very independent cat, typical of the breed. Chirps rather than meows, and is very talkative. Loves hunting and is an outdoors cat except when there is snow on the ground. Has no road sense as lives at the end of a dead end lane.

Bertie, a 12 year old neutered male moggy (black and white). Fully house trained, uses a cat flap. Vaccinated. Loves attention and cuddles.

We are relocating abroad and cannot take the cats. They enjoy each other’s company, but can be separated. They are in desperate need of a home as the local cat’s protection league are full. If you can offer them a home, please PM.

I don't understand how you can possibly even contemplate this. Why don't you take them with you?

I personally would do whatever it takes. I simply can't believe you can even think about having them put down! Stay in the uk for gods sake. Have you got no responsibility??? Obviously not as you have clearly said it would be your wife that cries. Some people should just not have animals!

I live in the same village as you as I've seen your poster in our local shop. Used to have a grey Lotus so you probably know who we are wink

Really wish I could help you out frown Best of luck finding them a new home.

Surely the RSPCA or Cat's Protection League will take them if push comes to shove?

I wish we could take them but we have four now...

Where are you emigrating too, and how come you can't take them?

Are you seriously suggesting that because of YOUR change of plans the animals you took on as a LIFELONG responsibility may be snuffed out?

Have some responsibility, you owe it to them to find them a new home, and charities will take them if you look hard enough, try the smaller ones rather than the CPL and RSPCA.

FFS What on earth are some people on?

The OP is taking his responsibility seriously - by trying to find his blooming cats a good home!

They look gorgeous and I'm sure you will get them both a good home before you emigrate.

I'm tempted it has to be said.

Live on a main road however, which is a bit of a problem if one of them has never been near a road.

OP, use this website: http://www.catchat.org/

It is run by smaller charities and also individuals who rescue cats, would also be worth putting a post on their forum. If you really can't find somewhere that will take them on (highly doubtful) then get in touch with me and I'll take them on until I can find them a new home. Don't put them to sleep, there are so many other options still available to you.

Yes, not useful, but true!

People who treat their animals like a second hand car make my blood boil.

I took mine to the States with me when I moved in November and they were/are absolutely fine, had the old boy for fourteen years, sure it cost some money, but you can take them you know, they're quite rugged creatures.

As someone has suggested, try here:

http://www.catchat.org/adoption/essex.html

There must be a rehoming charity on that site that has spaces.

My two were rescue cats, and very very shy/aggressive. Not the nicest cats by a long way, but I moved them to NZ to be with us. Ok, so I haven't actually got there yet myself, but won't be long.

OP, I used to live in Chelmsford, so will email the family to see if anyone's short a couple of cats. Good luck and if there is any way whatsoever you can take them, please do.

I don't think many cats have road sense to be honest, hence the huge numbers run over every week all around the country. It's a risk, they either learn or they don't, take them! smile
