Hi

On my Taimar I am having a few problems with the wiring to the headlamps.

The car has been fitted with a 9 way in line connector tied to the chassis, so the bonnet can be removed without having to cut the wires to the headlamps.

Unfortunately as this connector is not waterproof, (the previous owner had filled the back of the connector with bathroom sealant!!) and now having some problems with the headlamps not working properly.

Has anyone else had this problem, and can anyone recommend a waterproof replacement in line connector which can cope with the current and cable size.

Any help gratefully received.

Thanks

krispy

Hi,

Adrian Venn fitted a waterproof connector to the bonnet wiring loom on my M about 3 years ago and the car has done about 30k miles since without any problems whatsoever. Give the man a ring.

Hi Guys

Thanks for the help.

I followed up the link for the connectors - unfortunately their waterproof version will not cope with the power of the headlamps - fine for rearlights only.

Adrian as ever is proving illusive!

Any other ideas?

Thanks in advance

Wired the front of the "M" today. Went to the local scrap yard and looked round untill I found a Astra with a multiplug next to the battery. Cut it off, cost £2, and it works a treat. I believe most cars have them, especially the Japanese.

I use SureSeal connectors, I bought them online from Farnells. Waterproof, compact, good current rating etc.

On my 3000M I used an ordinary trailer plug and socket to wire up the headlights, indicators etc.. That way I could disconnect it and easily remove the whole bonnet.

I guess they are pretty weatherproof as they are designed to work in exposed conditions when towing. Nive fat contacts too, to minimise voltage drop.
