It's my birthday today so my lovely other half booked us a table at Anthony's in Leeds, I've been a few times before but only for lunch, this time we opted for the tasting menu.

I thought I'd post up a bit of a summary, not as a "ooo look what I had" but to share with like-minded food enthusiasts like myself who enjoy reading a menu as much as they do the latest copy of Evo.

Service was as excellent as ever and the food was just as good, obviously this kind of thing is quite personal but for me everything was cooked well, presented perfectly and brought to the table with a good description of what we were being given. All the little touches you expect from a good restaurant were there, the details such as labels on water bottles pointing the right way, attentive service without it being annoying and a friendly, relaxed environment.

I started with a glass of Tripel Karmeliet in the bar upstairs (new to me, when I finish writing this I'm going to look for a source) before being taken downstairs for the following:

Amuse Bouche: Duck wing with crispy chicken skin

  • *
Risotto of White Onion with Parmesan Air and Espresso

  • *
Crab, Bloody Mary Gazpacho, Celery Granita, frozen leaves

  • *
Olive Oil Poached Quail, Toasted Rice & Green Tea Consommé

  • *
Sous Vide Mackerel. Liquorice, Mackerel Tartare, Onion Wonton

  • *
Saddle of Lamb, Sweetbreads, Smoked Sprat, Sprat spine

  • *
Bulgar Pudding, Vanilla Sponge, Cardamom Milk, Apple Sorbet

  • *
Peppermint & Chocolate Cheese Cake, Brittle, Salt Toffee, Almonds

Because it was a school night I stuck to water with the meal, I'll have a bit more organisation next time and book the day off so I can have the wine too.

All in all a nice experience and very happy with the Anthony's experience again, my first tasting menu, I want to try more now smile

I'm working towards elBulli, fingers crossed I manage it one day...

Very good indeed, a lot of different tastes going on and definitely one to sip cold rather than a session beer.

Your meal sounds very impressive. I'll never forget this. 13 courses at the Burlington in March this year at the Devonshire Arms Hotel.

Ah yes The Devonshire, I'm from Skipton but have never been - another for the list I think, that's a corker of a menu.
