I bought a lead for my sat nav from america off ebay, and after using it once, neither it or the original cable will work. Any ideas exactly what i've managed to fk up??

I don't have a cigarette lighter or anything else to plug in to test it, only the sat nav cables. I was hoping i'd just knackered the sat nav holder/charger but the lead has a light on it which doesn't light up so i'm guessing it's something on the car??

Could be the fuse, most have a fuse just under the cigarette lighter rather than in the fusebox. You will need to remove the inside of it to get to this however. If not then it will be in the fusebox but this is generally not the case on most cars these days.

Other than this it could just be loose connectors from jiggling the lighter socket around when inserting and pulling out the plug.

There might be a fuse in the end of the charger (the bit you plug into the car). I once took one apart for some reason and I think their was a fuse in that.

I now know it's definitely the car as i've tested it with a tyre pump and no joy...

Sounds like it might be a bit tricky, it's an '04 focus btw.

No the fuse is inside the power plug itself

There is no plug, just a socket with a piece of plastic to cover it up, whatever I plug into the socket doesn't work..

There will be some fuses in the dashboard / car somewhere, it will say in the manual for your car. There is probably one labelled 'cigarette lighter' or '12v accessory point' or something.

Sorry, didn't read your post properly, I thought you said you'd tried it with an air pump and it worked
